You’ll learn the skills that matter when systems fail: natural shelter building, fire‑craft without matches, off‑grid navigation, water purification, wild plant identification, knot work, carving, practical survival gear use and a host of other skills. Every lesson is engineered to sharpen one thing — your ability to survive, adapt, and stay self‑reliant when the modern world is gone.
APSI is led by founder Arthur Knapp — survival instructor, tracker, forager, herbalist, and Wilderness First Responder with years of real field experience in Michigan’s backcountry. His background isn’t theoretical or borrowed. It’s earned through seasons of outdoor education, survival training, hunting, tracking, navigating, and living off the land long before “bushcraft” became a trend. Every course reflects that lived experience, delivering authentic wilderness training, real emergency preparedness, and the kind of self‑reliance that only comes from time spent in the wild.

The ultimate foundation of self-reliance. Learn a host of survival and bushcraft skills in West Michigan.

The Experience: What’s Included
We provide a safe, high-value environment so you can focus entirely on mastering the wild.
Duration: Friday 3 PM-nightfall. Saturday 9am-nightfall. Sunday 9am-early afternoon. (Weekend courses). Note, we cannot offer lodging or overnight camping.
Family-Friendly Environment: We maintain a positive, safe, professional and clean-language atmosphere. We have a private toilet and a common area with USB hookup to recharge your phones.

Flexible Cancellation Policy: While we do not generally offer refunds, we value your commitment to learning. You can reschedule your class for a later date—or even the following year—at no additional cost. If the cancellation is on our end, you can reschedule at a later date and will have priority over other students, or we can give you a refund. Cancellations can occur do to inclement and dangerous weather.

Before You Book: Requirements and Policies
- 18+ Only — No minors. All participants must be age 18 or older.
Mandatory Waivers — Every student must sign liability and medical waivers before training begins.
Weather Safety — I monitor detailed forecasts and will cancel or reschedule if conditions are unsafe.
Small Class Size — Maximum of 8 students per class to ensure safety and hands‑on instruction.
No Overnights — No tent camping or overnight stays allowed on-site.
Medical Insurance Required — All participants must have active medical insurance.
Prohibited Items — No alcohol, drugs, or weapons of any kind.
