These spiny husks, called burrs, start to split open between mid-September and early October, revealing the treasure inside: the chestnut, a delicious and nutrient-rich nut tucked within.
 
Compared to most other nuts, chestnuts are surprisingly low in fat and calories. They’re higher in carbohydrates, making them a great energy source, and they pack a solid fiber punch—one serving delivers about 15% of your daily needs.
