Questions? See Below

Here we answer your questions:

What should I bring?

Tent/hammock, sleep system, camp chair, right clothing (based on the current season/temperatures/weather), cooler with drinks, bug spray. Optional: knife, saw, notepad/pen, ferro rod, etc. Class tools are provided at the camp (example, we can loan you a knife).

Is it Safe and Family-Friendly?

Yes, our programs are safe and family-friendly. Safety is our top priority. We may cancel a class if extreme weather is expected—though we don’t worry about passing rain showers, we take precautions when heavy storms, high winds, or flooding are forecasted. Knives, axes, and saws are carefully sheathed and stored when not in use. We stay within the camp and follow established trails. If we venture out, it's always as a group, with an instructor present. Our fire pit is surrounded by a stone ring to help prevent burns and ensure safe gatherings. Firearms, alcohol, and drugs are not permitted at the camp, and we kindly discourage the use of profane language to help keep the environment respectful and welcoming for all ages. We take pride in creating an atmosphere where everyone—from kids to adults—can learn, explore, and feel at home in nature.

Restroom Facilities: Is there a toilet?

We provide a private and discreet restroom setup inside a pop-up privacy tent, ensuring your comfort and peace of mind. You’ll be completely out of view while using the facilities. Afterward, we kindly ask that you cover your waste using the pine chips located just beside the tent. This helps us maintain cleanliness and care for the natural space we all share.

Are all people welcome?

At APSI, everyone is truly welcome. It doesn’t matter your race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, height, weight, politics, religion—or any other category that makes you uniquely you. You are first and foremost seen as a human being, a friend, and a guest of our school. And as our guest, you will be treated with kindness, respect, and dignity. This is one of the most common questions we receive, and we’re always proud to answer it: Yes, you belong here.

Disclaimer: Participation in courses offered by Arcturus Primitive Skills Institute, LLC (APSI) involves outdoor activities that carry inherent risks. While APSI takes every precaution to ensure the safety of participants, it is essential to understand that survival skills training can be physically demanding and may expose participants to potentially hazardous conditions. Participants are responsible for their personal safety and must follow all instructions provided by APSI instructors. APSI is not liable for any injuries, accidents, or damages that may occur during the courses. When you come out here, make sure you have medical insurance before signing up.

Liability Waiver: All participants are required to sign a liability waiver before attending any APSI course. By signing the waiver, participants acknowledge and accept the risks associated with survival skills training and agree to release APSI, its instructors, and staff from any and all liability for injuries, accidents, or damages that may occur during the course. The waiver also includes a consent for emergency medical treatment in the event of an injury or illness.

Cancellation Policy: While we do not offer refunds, you can reschedule your class for a later date or even the following year at no additional cost if you need to cancel.

Hazardous Weather: On rare occasions, we may have to cancel a class or weekend course due to dangerous weather. While we don’t worry about passing rainstorms, we do cancel if heavy thunderstorms, high winds, possible tornadoes, or flash flooding are in the forecast. It’s never fun—but it’s absolutely necessary to keep our students safe. If a cancellation occurs, we’ll notify you by text or email in advance. Your spot will remain reserved at no additional charge and will take priority over other students’ spots in the future. You will get your class!

Important Note: Participants must be at least 15 years old. Any participant under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the liability waiver, and the participant must also sign it. If both signatures are not provided, the participant will not be permitted to attend the course. We prioritize your safety and well-being while delivering high‑quality survival skills training. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us before your course date.
